Where meditation and photography meet…
“I used to want the world to see and appreciate my photos. But now, I just want my photos to help me see and appreciate the world.”
-Tina Lear
Beauty is everywhere!
When I go for a photo walk, I have an intention to experience the extraordinary in the ordinary. I become open, curious, receptive; the clear seer of the world around me. I look for stillness, power, whimsy, wonder…whatever delights me. The ugly things can draw me in, too, like the perfect spiral of a vine as it overtakes and strangles. The magic comes when I allow things to be as they are without judgement. This is meditation.
When my daughter was in middle school and recovering from Lyme disease, we went on a photo walk to lift her spirits on a dreary January day. In no time she was climbing on an old stone wall to capture a cool angle. I watched in delight as she got lost in the process. At the end of the walk she said to me, “Mom, now I know why you love this so much. When you look for beauty, you find it.”

I LOVE taking photos. Whether capturing the soft afternoon light falling on a leaf in the forest, the majesty of a crashing wave, or the playful twinkle or deep soulfulness in the eyes of a person or animal, photography deepens my appreciation for life.
